Enter Progress of Design Object

Explanation

This activity is used to enter a design object's progress. The progress of a design object is established when a milestone template and a milestone is connected to the design object, for example, an existing milestone with a cumulative progress value of 0% can be selected for the initial stage of your design object.

A milestone template consists of one or more milestones and each milestone will have a pre-defined progress percentage value. These values are defined in design basic data. There are several methods that can be used to enter the progress for a design object using milestone templates and milestones;

• Define a milestone template and an initial milestone for an object class. When you create a design object using this object class, progress values appear automatically. For more information refer to the Assign a Milestone Template to an Object Class activity description.
• As detailed in this activity, you can manually enter the progress of the design object by selecting an appropriate milestone template and milestone.
• Select a design status for the milestone you create, for example, you can define a progress value of 100% for the Set Completed status. As a result progress values are automatically updated on the design object when the Set Completed status is selected. When the progress of a design object changes (i.e., a different milestone number is selected) the history record for this object will be updated. As a result, the Information Category field will receive the value Progress Changed.

If a project and an activity is defined on the selected design object, the progress values you enter will be updated on the project activity. Design object progress on the activity is calculated in the same way as a project task. For more information refer to the Project Management in IFS/Asset Design about description.

Prerequisites

• Milestone templates and milestones need to be defined in design basic data.
• If a project connection already exists, the project activity needs to exist in the Released status to be able to enter a progress value greater than 0%.

System Effects

If the design object is connected to a project and project activity, the progress is updated on the project activity.

Procedure

1. Open the Design Object, Design Objects or the Project Connections window.
2. Search for the design object for which progress should be entered. Additionally, in the case of the Design Object window, click the Project tab.
3. In the Milestone Template field, enter the milestone template to be connected to the design object. Use the List of Values to select a suitable value.
4. In the Milestone Number field, enter the milestone number which will reflect the progress of the object. Use the List of Values to select a suitable value. When you select a milestone number, pre-defined values for the Cumulative Progress and Cumulative Duration fields appear automatically.
5. Click Save.
