A design part tree view is a configurable view of a single design part structure or collection of design part structures and related entities in a tree-like structure.
If a tree view is created from the Business Object Explorer for the design parts plug-in, design parts become the main business object in that tree view and configurations can be set to display required design parts. For example all design parts grouped by class with Available design part status.
If relationships exist between the main business object, design parts, and another business object type, settings can be made to display the related business objects as required in the same tree view. For example, a tree view created mainly for design parts could have connected documents, for which settings could be made on the tab for the design parts to show only the connected documents that have been Approved.
Once a design part tree view has been created it can be viewed by expanding the Explore Design Parts node. Design parts in the tree view are named, by default, using the design part ID and description of the design parts
When creating a design part tree view the first step is to determine whether the tree view should display either:
Direct Navigation is employed if design parts need to be viewed by classes or top design part. This ensures that child parts will be displayed directly underneath the parent and not within relational folders such as Consists of and Belongs To. The tree view for a pump and its Consists Of bearing parts in direct navigation mode is as follows:
If the tree view is built using navigational models this leads to indirect navigation in which the child parts will be displayed in relational folders under the parent. The tree view for a pump and its Consists Of bearing parts using relational folders is as follows:
A standard must be defined for the design part tree view and if one is not defined, the tree view will be based on the standard of the user's default plant. It is also possible to construct the design part tree view to exclude or include design parts based on the design part status and latest version property. For example, a design part tree view displaying only the design parts with the Available design part status and only the latest design part versions. For such configurations of tree views, it is possible to set if the tree view needs to hide design parts that do not satisfy the filter conditions or display these design parts in gray. This can be achieved by enforcing or exempting the Display Objects in Conflict with Filter setting.
The combinations of settings for design part tree views are numerous but the following are a few examples of configurations that can be made:
Additional information records that appear beneath a design part in the tree view such as related documents or design objects will be included by default in a folder called More Information. To directly view additional information beneath the design part, the Omit the More Information folder setting needs to be enforced.
