This activity is used to establish connections between design objects using a combination of object connection types which are also set up as class relations between suitable classes. A single object connection type could be defined with two class relation descriptions, super and sub, and two more object connection descriptions. The former class relation descriptions are used for relating classes to each other.
For example, defining a connection type Drive, might have Can drive and Can be driven by as class descriptions and Drives and Is driven by as object descriptions. Setting the Can drive class relation for the MOTOR class against the PUMP Class will in turn set the defining Can be driven by class relation object connection type for the PUMP class, establishing a valid class relation between these two classes. With this class relation in place, design objects of the MOTOR and PUMP classes can be connected via the Drives and Is driven by object connection types respectively
Object connections could also be transferred to the facility as equipment connections in conjunction with a valid equipment object connection type.
The classes of the design objects between which the connection is being established should have the appropriate object connection types defined for their class relations.
Design object connections will be set up.
