Create Document Milestone Template

Explanation

Use this activity to create a document milestone template. Milestones indicate progress in the development of a document and are used with document packages. You can change the progress of a milestone even if it is used by a document in a package. If a milestones progress is changed, the progress of the documents that use the milestone, including their latest revisions, also change. Each milestone is treated separately even when several milestones in a profile are modified at once.

Procedure

  1. Open the Document Basic window and click the Document Milestone Template tab.
  2. Click New to enable the creation of a template name.
  3. Enter a template ID in the Milestone Template field. This field is required and accepts a maximum of 10 characters.
  4. Enter a description of your template in the Templ Description field. This field is required and accepts a maximum of 180 characters.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click in the table and click New to enable creation of a milestone. 
  7. In the Milestone Number field, enter a value. You can enter up to five characters. 
  8. In the Description field, enter the description of the milestone step.
  9. In the Cumulative Progress field, enter the estimated percent of total work that will be performed when the milestone is reached.
  10. In the Cumulative Duration field, enter the estimated percent of total hours that will be performed when the milestone is reached. 
  11. Click Save. A value for the Relative Progress field is automatically calculated.
  12. Repeat steps 6-10 to define another milestone for your template. 

Note: The values for the Cumulative Progress and Cumulative Duration fields in your template can be adjusted as required.
