The business opportunity is a pre-step to quotations and orders. At this stage you only know that you have the opportunity to sell something to a specific customer or prospect but it is not mandatory to specify exactly which parts it concerns or from where it should be delivered.
The first step in a new entry is to enter the opportunity header. When the header has been entered with valid data and saved, it receives the Unconfirmed status. The status can then manually be updated to Confirmed once you get a confirmation from the customer. The next step in a new entry is to specify representatives, contacts, part lines, competitors etc.
On the opportunity lines, you specify the parts and quantities that the customer wants to order. If the part is not registered as a sales part, it is possible to enter only the description, the quantity and an estimated price and cost. The part must later be entered as a sales part if an order is going to be created from the opportunity.
The status can manually be changed to Canceled, Closed or On Hold. When the status is changed to Closed the closed status will be lost or won. If the opportunity is lost, you can specify which competitor that won the business and the reason for the loss. When an order is created, you can enter the reason why it was won.
