Enter Configuration Family

Explanation

This activity is used to create a new configuration family. A configuration family is a collection of configuration characteristics used by parts in the family. A configuration family is associated with a configurable part in the Part window.

When a configuration family is created the following options can be set as default for the family:

• Lock Configuration Rules: when this check box is selected, the sales rules connected to part revisions in the Released state cannot be updated.
• Configure by Category: when this check box is selected, one category with the connected characteristics will be displayed in the configuration window to be configured. When the connected characteristics have values, the next category can be configured. This mode simplifies configuration, especially if many characteristics are used in configuration.
• Allow Incomplete Configuration: when this check box is selected, a customer order can be created from a sales quotation when the configuration for a configurable part is not complete.

Prerequisites

IFS/Configuration Back Office and IFS/Configuration Characteristic must be installed.

As a result of this activity, a configuration family is available to be connected to configurable parts.

Procedure

Note: If sales rules have been created and you want to restrict changes to the sales rules, select the Lock Configuration Rules check box.

1. Open the Configuration Family window.
2. Create a new record. 
3. In the Config Family ID field, enter the name of the new configuration family.
4. In the Description field, enter the description of the new family.
5. To add notes about this configuration family, right-click and then click Notes. In the editor that is displayed, enter the required notes and click OK. The Notes check box will be selected automatically once you add a note.
6. Select the Configure by Category check box if the configuration is to be done by category.
7. Select the Allow Incomplete Configuration check box if a customer order is to be created from a sales quotation when the configuration is not complete.
8. Save the changes.
