Define External File Separator

Explanation

Use this activity to define new or modify existing external file separator definitions. External file separators are used when defining a file template that handles input or output files having lines where the values are separated by a character or a string.

Some external file separators will be defined during installation.

As soon as one external file separator definition is available then it is possible to define an external file template dedicated for value separated file lines.

Procedure

  1. Open the External File Separators window.
  2. To define a new separator identity:
  1. Click New
  2. Define a separator identity and a description for this identity.
  3. Define the separator, a single character or a string.
    If the ascii value of the separator character is known then supply this value instead.
  4. Click Save
    If the ascii value was supplied then the character associated with this value will be displayed.
    If the separator is defined as a string consisting of more than one character then the ascii field will be empty.
  1. To modify an existing separator identity definition:
  1. Modify description, separator or ascii value.
    If the ascii value of the separator character is known then supply this value instead.
    It is possible to define a string as separator.
  2. Click Save
    If the ascii value was supplied then the character associated with this value will be displayed.
    If the separator is defined as a string consisting of more than one character then the ascii field will be empty.
