Generate Calendar
Explanation
This activity interprets the
calendar's rules (schedules and schedule exceptions) , creates and stores the interpretation of those
rules, and generates a calendar. This mandatory activity is to be
performed by a system administrator or equivalent person, and is required in
order to use the calendar in the system.
Only one
calendar can be generated at the same time. Both new (Not Generated
state) and existing
(Changes Pending state) calendars can be generated. Generating a calendar in
Changes Pending state should only be done with extreme caution and not during
normal business hours. Changing a calendar affects all of the components which
use that calendar and could seriously impact stored data in the system.
Prerequisites
This activity has the following prerequisites:
- A calendar must be created.
System Effects
As a result of this activity:
- A calendar is generated and becomes available in the system.
- The generated
calendar can be viewed or monitored in the
Generated Calendars
and Generated Calendar Details window.
-
The background job can be monitored and errors corrected in the
Background
Jobs
window.
- The components which use the calendar that has been changed, receive a Calendar Changed message.
- If generating an existing calendar (Changes Pending state), the system may
be seriously impacted since all components which use that calendar will be
affected. When changing a calendar, the system validates
if the change is allowed based on each connected component's functionality
and security settings, e.g., if a calendar change makes it necessary to move a
date for a customer order, the user running the update must be allowed to
make the date change.
