To work with the designer mode in IFS Business Analytics it is a must that you first set up basic data that is necessary to create a report. IFS Solution Manger is used for this purpose. A systems administrator, report designer or an authorized personnel in a similar capacity is required to first set up IFS Solution Manager and configure: BI Services, Information Sources and BI Client Navigator.
Setup BI Services by default is located in IFS Solution Manager/Configuration/BI Services. This should be used to define parameters for business intelligence functionality. There are two parameter types available in Setup BI Services, Mandatory and Optional. Parameters of type mandatory must to be configured in order to use IFS Business Analytics. These settings will affect the behavior of the business analytics related functionality.
An information source is the base for an IFS Business Analytics report. It creates a connection between a main data source and associated basic data sources (dimensions). It is also used to define some additional information such as, URL information and write back information. To create an IFS Business Analytics report you must configure at least one information source.
Information sources can be configured in IFS Solution Manager/Configuration/BI Services/Information Sources. This is used to view, modify or add new meta data for information sources.
After a new installation of BI Services you will see that
information sources are not available for use in the design mode. In order to view
the information sources you must first set it up in Setup BI Client navigator.
This feature is located in IFS Solution Manager/Configuration/BI Services/Setup
BI Client Navigator. The client navigator is represented as a tree with the
information sources connected as its branches.
Before you start working with IFS Business Analytics, the basic data for
design mode has to be set up as detailed in the documentation for IFS
Foundation1/Configuration Guide/Configure IFS BI Services.
