Specify Authority Combinations
Explanation
Use this activity to specify authority combinations for an authority class. The
combination blocks or permits users who belong to the authority class to view information
on certain code strings in the various query windows and reports in IFS/General Ledger, as
well as in reports created in IFS/Report Generator.
Prerequisites
Before authority combinations can be specified, the following must have been completed:
- The authority class must have been entered in
Authority Classes
in
IFS/General Ledger.
System Effects
As a result of this activity, the user belonging to the authority class either is
allowed or not allowed to view information on the specified code strings in the general
ledger.

Procedure
Use the following procedure to enter the authority combinations:
- Open Authority Combinations
and find the existing
authorization combinations.
- Use the New function to enter a new authorization combination. It might
be useful to start by authorizing all code parts for use by the authorization class; do
this by marking all the code parts with a percent sign (%). On the second line in the window, you can then mark the illegal
code parts, i.e., those to which authorization is not given. In practice, it is possible
for a combination of code parts to be both legal and illegal. In such case, the illegal
combination always takes precedence.
When defining combinations, the code parts can be marked in four
different ways:
- Enter a value on the code part. This means that, if you are specifying legal
combinations, users who belong to this authorization class can query on the code part if
it contains this value. If you are specifying illegal combinations, users in this
authorization class cannot query on the code part if it contains this value.
- Enter a blank space. This means that, if you are specifying legal combinations, users in
this user group can leave this code part blank. If you are specifying illegal
combinations, the users in this user group cannot leave the code part blank.
- Enter a percent sign (%). This means that, if you are specifying legal combinations,
users in this authorization class can enter on this code part regardless of its value. If
you are specifying illegal combinations, users belonging to this user group cannot enter
values on the code part. You can also enter a figure, such as 3%, in the Account field;
this means that all accounts beginning with 3 are legal or illegal.
- Enter an underscore ( _ ). This means that, if you are specifying legal combinations,
users who belong to this user group can enter this code part regardless of the value in
this position. If you are specifying illegal combinations, users who belong to the user
group cannot enter on the code part if it contains a value in this position. For example,
if you are specifying that Code B _3_ is illegal, users in this user group cannot enter
Code B in any case where the code part is three characters long and has a 3 in the second
position.
