Define Tool Instance

Explanation

Use this activity to enter and maintain records of tools and instances of tools. Tool IDs can be linked to routings to specify particular tools to use. Tool instances can be used by IFS/Constraint Based Scheduling as part of a shop order operation capacity used to schedule shop orders. Tool Instances have effectivity date ranges that define the availability of each tool instance to production.

Prerequisites

This activity requires that a tool ID must have been defined in Manufacturing Tool.

System Effects

As a result of this activity:

•  A new tool instances for a tool is created.
• This tool instance can be used by CBS, if installed, as part of a shop order operation capacity used to schedule shop orders.

Procedure

1. Open the Manufacturing Tool window.
2. Populate the window and select the tool ID to connect with new tool instances in the Tool ID field, or query for the tool ID.
3. In the Tool Detail tab, either use the default tool instance displayed in the Tool Instance field to make modifications, or click New to create a new instance.
4. Enter the tool instance name you want to create in the Tool Instance column.
5. Enter a description of the tool instance in the Description column.
6. If desired, enter any notes about the tool instance in the Note Text field. Double-click in this field to open the Note Text editor to simplify entering extensive text.
7. If an equipment object is used, connect it with the tool instance in the Object ID column. Click List of Values to select from the available object IDs.
8. If desired, specify the work center in which the tool instance is normally found. Click List of Values in the Normal Work Center No field.
9. If desired, specify the production line in which the tool instance is normally found. Click List of Values in the Normal Production Line field.
10. If desired, enter the date in the Last Calibration Date field that the tool instance was last calibrated. This must be on a calendar working date. The date in the Next Calibration Date field will automatically be calculated.
11. If the tool instance uses Measurement System Analysis (MSA), enter necessary values in the appropriate fields.
12. Specify the validity range of the tool ID instance in the Begin Date and End Date columns. You do not need to specify an end date.
13. Repeat steps 2 - 6 for each tool instance.
14. Save the record (F12).
