Define Fault Deferral

Explanation

This activity is used to define fault deferrals. Fault deferrals are used to allow for a delay before faults must be corrected. There are two types of fault deferrals. The Requires List Item Definition check box determines the type of fault deferral.

If this check box is not selected, the fault deferral can be used immediately and there is no maximum deferral time defined. With this type of fault deferral, there is no maximum deferral time predefined, but you can enter the number of days and/or operational parameter units that each fault can be deferred.

If this check box is selected, then item codes must also be defined (a maximum allowed deferral time is specified). Each item code must then be associated with the part revisions that it should be valid for. If it should only be valid for a specific function, you must also associate the applicable functions.

System Effects

• A new deferral list code is created.
• If the Requires List Item Definition check box was not selected, it will be possible to use this fault deferral when reporting faults on any part revisions and/or functions. The user can then decide how long the fault can be deferred for each fault. For more information, refer to the activity Enable Fault Deferral.
• It is possible to create default definitions for maximum delays by defining deferral categories. Using default delays is optional. For more information, refer to the activity Define Category with Default Maximum Delays.
• If the Requires List Item Definition check box is selected, item codes must be defined before the deferral can be used. It is possible to create item codes for the deferral. For more information, refer to the activity Define Item Code.

Procedure

1. Open the Deferral Definition window.
2. Create a new record.
3. Enter the name of the deferral in the Deferral List Code field.
4. Enter a description in the Description field.
5. If you want item codes to be required for this deferral, select the Requires List Item Definition check box.
6. Save.
