Define where Instructions should be used
Explanation
This activity is used to define where instructions
(operations) are to be used.
Instructions are common definitions of operations with details, that can be
used on task types such as interval maintenance, modifications, condition
limits, faults, life limits and post maintenance checks. You can define an instruction (operation) to use with one task type exclusively (for
instance, one specific type of interval maintenance) or for multiple
task types at the
same time (for instance, on three different types of interval maintenance, two
types of modifications and five types of condition limits).
Further, instructions are commonly broken down into more detailed activities
often referred to as subtasks. These subtasks can be defined and used on the
same task types as listed above. For more information on connecting subtasks to
instructions, refer the activity Define Subtasks for Instructions.
Note: The connection between a task type and operation is created
automatically when
registering an operation in the Instructions/Operations
sub
tab found in the relevant detail window (e.g.,
Modification
Details). Registering in these
tabs is exactly the same as in the
Instruction window except that
you're working in an overview window instead of a detail window.
Prerequisites
- An operation must be defined for
the part revision.
- To register interval maintenance data for an operation, maintenance
codes must be defined as basic data in
Maintenance Program Basic Data.
- To register condition limits for an operation, the condition limits must be pre-defined on the part revision.
- In order to connect modifications to an operation,
a modification must be defined. Furthermore, parts and part revisions including the part revision for which the operation is created must be assigned to the modification.
- To connect fault functions to an operation, fault codes must have been
connected to the functions of the relevant product model.
- To register instructions for an LLP (life limited part), the part must be defined as an LLP and have stress ratings connected
to it.
- To connect post maintenance checks to an operation, the post maintenance
check must be defined. Further, the part revision for which the operation is
created must be assigned to the post maintenance check.
System Effects
- An instruction (operation) is defined and
connected to the task type that is to perform the operation.
- The instruction will be used to remove the expired
LLP from its parent structure.
- When pending tasks are distributed (per task type)
to a work order, the operation will be copied and connected to the work
order.
- If subtasks are connected to the instruction,
these can be viewed in the Subtasks tab per task code.

Procedure
Use the following procedure to connect an instruction (operation) to an
interval maintenance:
- Open the
Instruction window and query (F3) for your part
revision or for a specific operation.
- Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the
Maintenance Code sub tab.
- Create a new record
(F5).
- In the Maint Code field, enter the required interval maintenance
code. Use the List of Values to select a value.
- Save the record (F12).
Use the following procedure to connect an instruction (operation) to a
condition limit:
- Open the
Instruction
window and query (F3) for your part
revision or for a specific operation.
- Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the
Condition Limit sub tab.
- Create a new record
(F5).
- In the Condition Category field, enter the required condition
category. Use the List of Values to select a value.
- When a condition category is entered, the Condition Code field is
populated with the pre-defined value and the condition limit where the
instruction (operation) is to be executed is defined.
- Save the record (F12).
Use the following procedure to connect an instruction (operation) to a
modification:
- Open the
Instruction
window and query (F3) for your part
revision or for a specific operation.
- Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the
Modification sub tab.
- Create a new record (F5).
- In the Mod Code field, enter the modification code for the
modification where the operation is to be executed. Use the List of Values
to select a value.
- In the Mod Execution Type field, enter the modification execution
type. Use the List of Values to select a value.
- Save the record (F12).
Use the following procedure to connect an instruction
(operation) to a fault function:
- Open the
Instruction
window and
query (F3) for your part revision or for a specific operation.
- Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the
Fault Function sub tab.
- Create a new record (F5).
- In the Function Number field, enter the
required fault function number. Use the List of Values to select a value.
- In the Fault Code field, enter the fault
code. Use the List of Values to select a value.
- Save the record (F12).
Use the following procedure to connect an instruction
(operation) to a life limit:
- Open the Instruction window and
query (F3) for your part revision or for a specific operation.
- Click the Connect Task Codes tab and
then click the Life Limit sub tab.
- Create a new record (F5).
- In the Stress Rating ID field, enter the
required stress rating ID. Use the List of Values to select a value.
- In the LLP Part Number field, enter the
required LLP part number. Use the List of Values to select a value.
- In the LLP Part Revision field, enter the
required LLP part revision. Use the List of Values to select a value.
- Save the record (F12).
Use the following procedure to connect an instruction (operation) to a post
maintenance check:
- Open the Instruction window and
query (F3) for your part revision or for a specific operation.
- Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the
Post Maintenance Check sub tab.
- Create a new record (F5).
- In the Post Maint Check ID field, enter the required post
maintenance check ID. Use the List of Values to select a value.
- Save the record (F12).
