Enter Product Families

Explanation

Use this activity to enter product families. This optional task is to be performed by a system administrator or equivalent person. The product family information is manufacturing related and is used in IFS Manufacturing to group parts in product structures.

The product family code *, Common, is predefined when the system is installed. Product Family is an optional field in the Inventory Part/General tab. By creating product families and linking similar types of parts to the same product family code, you can simplify searches. Master Scheduling also groups forecasts and demands by product families.

Prerequisites

There are no specific prerequisites.

System Effects

As a result of this activity:

• A product family is created.
• Inventory parts can be linked to, and sorted by product family.
• If a product family code is linked to any inventory part records, it cannot be deleted. However, the description can be changed at any time.
• Master Scheduling Level 0 will group forecasts and demands by product families, if this functionality is installed.

Procedure

1. Open the Inventory Basic Data window
2. Click the Product Families tab, and select New.
3. Using no more than 5 alphanumeric characters, enter the product family code
4. Enter a description for the product family.
5. Save the changes.
