Modify Planning Method Descriptions

Explanation

Use this activity to view and modify the descriptions of planning methods. Planning methods are provided by IFS; only the descriptions can be changed. This optional task is to be performed by a system administrator or equivalent person.

When you create a new inventory part record, the system will provide the default planning method A. This planning method can be changed, if desired. If you choose to make modifications to the planning method descriptions, you should not change the meaning of the existing text, since the functionality of the planning method will remain the same. You may choose to add text, or substitute text that is more familiar to your organization.

Prerequisites

There are no specific prerequisites.

System Effects

As a result of this activity:

• Any changes you make in the planning method descriptions will also be visible in the planning method description field in the Inventory Part/Planning Data tab.
• The actual functionality of the planning methods will not change.
• Planning methods are used for material planning by the MRP module and in the creation of order proposals for the Purchasing module.

Procedure

To change the description of a planning method:

1. Open the Inventory Basic Data window.
2. Click the Inventory Part Planning Methods tab, then populate the tab.
3. Click the cursor in the Planning Method Description field for the description you want to change.
4. Enter the changed text. Note that since the functionality of the planning method will not change, you should not enter any text that changes the meaning of the existing description.
5. Save the changes.
