Create Proposed Schedule
Explanation
This activity is used to generate proposed schedules for
all the parts or individual parts on a production line, based on the retrieved line demands. Proposed schedules represent a trial run at creating a schedule.
The temporary output can be overwritten with another attempt, or confirmed if
acceptable as the new schedule. After generation, you can review the proposed
schedule relative to the demands and current schedules.
Several different options can be offered for schedule generation, considering
different inputs and scheduling approaches. The production line calendar is used
to govern all the available production days. You can generate a proposed
schedule by indicating:
- The "production line" or "production line part" for
which a schedule should be generated
- The demand date range to use for the quantity inputs.
- The scheduling approach. The available options are:
- Schedule to exactly meet demands - Loads demands
directly to the schedule date without any modification
- Backward schedule using line rate as capacity
limit - Demands are allocated to the line, using the line rate to determine
the allocated proportions of each part. Quantities that cannot be produced
within a single day roll to the previous day. Any unallocated demand
quantities at the firm horizon are stacked at the firm
horizon limit.
- Forward schedule using line rate as capacity
limit - Demands are allocated to the line, using the line rate to determine
the allocated proportions of each part. Quantities that cannot be produced
within a single day roll to the next day. If necessary, schedule quantities can be promised beyond the scheduling horizon, as firm schedules that will meet the demands.
Prerequisites
Production line demands must exist.
System Effects
- Proposed line schedules will be generated for the
production line.
- Existing proposed schedules for the affected date range and
parts will be deleted and replaced with the new schedule. The proposed schedule is
a temporary working place to create simulated schedules for a production line.
Only one proposed schedule can exist at a time for a given production line (i.e.
two different planners cannot simultaneously work on their own versions of a proposed line schedule).
