Use this activity to change the registered catalog number for a serial structure template. The catalog number must be unique inside a template and for all templates above and all templates below in the structure.
A value can be entered in the Catalog Number field if it does not contain any value. If the catalog number is already defined for a structure template, you can use the right mouse button option Change Catalog Number to change the catalog number. There are special rules for this change if IFS/Complex Assembly MRO is installed.
The IFS/Complex Assembly MRO solution bases the creation of position parts on the catalog number. The structure that is transferred to IFS/Manufacturing is based on position parts.
An alternate is required to have the same catalog number as the prime part. However, an alternate does not need to be assigned its own catalog number as it always gets the prime part's catalog number when the position part is created.
The following rules apply for alternates, prime parts, position parts, and catalog numbers.
- If the alternate has a catalog number that is not the same as the prime part's catalog number, no new position part is created and no structure line is created in the transfer. If the alternate part has a different catalog number, the transfer does not use this catalog number in the creation of the structure. The alternate's catalog number is only used if the alternate part is the prime part in another template structure.
- If the alternate has a structure, all the components should have a catalog number.
- If the component's catalog number is the same as the catalog number for the component to the prime part number, a position part or a structure line is created. If the same catalog number is used for both component of the prime part and for component of the alternate part, their structure positions and also their quantities should be same.
- If the alternate part component's catalog number differs from the prime part component's catalog number, a new position part is created and a new structure line is added as a child to the position part created for the prime part.
If IFS/Complex Assembly MRO is installed, the rules for changing the catalog number are as follows.
- Check if position parts based on this catalog number exist. If position parts do not exist you can change the catalog number.
- If a position part exists, check if the position part is used in IFS/Manufacturing. If the position part is not used, you can change the catalog number.
- If the position part is used in IFS/Manufacturing, check if it is only used in 'Buildable', ‘Plannable’ or ‘Tentative’ product structure alternates in the IFS/Manufacturing Standards. If not used or only used in product structure alternates different to 'Buildable', 'Plannable' or 'Tentative’, you can change the catalog number.
- If the position part has not been used in any released work scope, you can change the catalog number.
- The position part reference for this structure position is automatically removed when the catalog number is changed.
- Once the catalog number is changed, the following must be done:
- Run a new retransfer for the top template part.
- Manually clean up and/or delete old position parts from IFS/Part Catalog.
- The catalog number is used in other than the 'Buildable', ‘Plannable’ or ‘Tentative’ product structure. When the structure has a status of 'Buildable', ‘Plannable’ or ‘Tentative’, the status must be manually set to ‘Obsolete’.
- The catalog number is not used in a released work scope.
