Manage Preliminary Reading

Explanation

This activity is used to change a Preliminary reading into a valid reading, or to mark it as incorrect. An assistant will guide you through the process. The reading will have been set as a Preliminary Reading having failed validation, when entered against an Equipment Object Parameter in the Measurements for Object window. The assistant allows for the correction reason to be selected (Incorrect Reading/Meter Change/Meter Roll-over), and then provides for the relevant data to be entered for that reason. Provided that all the data has been entered, and the reading validates, then the Preliminary Reading will be converted to another Measurement Type. If more than one sequential reading exists of the type Preliminary Reading, only the earliest of these can be corrected via the assistant. Following correction, the subsequent readings will be re-validated, and will either be set as Recorded Readings, or if they still fail validation, will remain as Preliminary Readings - the earliest of which can then in turn be corrected.

Prerequisites

The parameter must be of Value Type ‘Accumulated’. ‘Limit’ type parameters are not affected by Meter Roll-overs and Meter Changes in the same way as Accumulated type parameters, as they do not have an accumulating Total Value.

Procedure

You can manage a preliminary reading from the Measurements for Object window, or the Measurements window.

Managing a preliminary reading from the Measurements for Object window:

  1. Populate the Measurements for Object window with an equipment object.
  2. Select a parameter record
  3. Identify a Preliminary reading in the Measurement History records, below the parameter measurements. If there is more than one Preliminary record in a sequence, select the earliest dated record.
  4. Right-click, then click Manage Preliminary Reading
  5. An assistant appears, showing details of the object and parameter/meter selected. Select one of the three options to manage the reading - Incorrect reading/Meter roll-over/Meter change.
  6. Proceed to the next step, the details of which depend upon the type of correction selected.
  7. For an Incorrect reading - enter the correct Recorded Value. The Registration Date can be changed, if required, and a Measurement Note can be added. The new value will be validated for the entered date. If there is no replacement reading required or possible, select the Correct Reading Unknown tick box. Click Finish once the data is correct.
  8. For a Meter roll-over - the current registered roll-over value for the meter will be presented for checking (and changing if wrong), or if no value exists, enter a value in the Meter Roll-over Value field.
  9. Proceed to the final step, to review the data. The Meter Roll-over Value will be used to create a new measurement record, and the Total Value of the selected reading will be adjusted to include the roll-over value. Click Finish if the data is correct.
  10. For a Meter change - the details of the new meter need to be entered - the Start Value, the Meter Change Date, and where relevant the Meter ID and Meter Roll-over value. The old meter End Value should also be entered. If any of the Start Value/End Value/Meter Change Date fields are unknown, the relevant tick boxes can be selected, resulting in default values being entered. The End Value is defaulted to the last known reading. The  Start Value is defaulted to zero. The Meter Change Date is defaulted to midway between the Selected Registration Date and the last reading date. Click Finish once the data is correct.

Managing a preliminary reading from the Measurements window:

  1. Populate the Measurements window with an equipment object/parameter, sorted by registration date.
  2. Identify a Preliminary reading in the Measurements records. If there is more than one Preliminary record in a sequence, select the earliest dated record.
  3. Right-click, then click Manage Preliminary Reading
  4. An assistant appears, showing details of the object and parameter/meter selected. Select one of the three options to manage the reading - Incorrect reading/Meter roll-over/Meter change.
  5. Proceed to the next step, the details of which depend upon the type of correction selected
  6. For an Incorrect reading - enter the correct Recorded Value. The Registration Date can be changed, if required, and a Measurement Note can be added. The new value will be validated for the entered date. If there is no replacement reading required or possible, select
the Correct Reading Unknown tick box. Click Finish once the data is correct
  7. For a Meter roll-over - the current registered roll-over value for the meter will be presented for checking (and changing if wrong), or if no value exists, enter a value in the Meter Roll-over Value field.
  8. Proceed to the final step, to review the data. The Meter Roll-over Value will be used to create a new measurement record, and the Total Value of the selected reading will be adjusted to include the roll-over value. Click Finish if the data is correct.
  9. For a Meter change - the details of the new meter need to be entered - the Start Value, the Meter Change Date, and where relevant the Meter ID and Meter Roll-over value. The old meter End Value should also be entered. The End Value is defaulted to the last known reading. The  Start Value is defaulted to zero. The Meter Change Date is defaulted to midway between the Selected Registration Date and the last reading date. Click Finish once the data is correct
