Reserve Serial Numbers for DOP

Explanation

Use this activity to reserve a range of serial numbers for a specific DOP header or DOP order. This means that, when receiving into inventory, the reserved serial numbers will be used.

Note: If the inventory part has the structure effectivity set to serial, only numeric values can be reserved as serial numbers. You cannot reserve serial numbers that already exist in the Part Serial window or are reserved on another order.

Prerequisites

• The part is defined as an inventory serial tracking part in Part.
• If the Serial Rule check box is selected in the Part window, an automatic suggestion of the next free serial numbers in the range is given.

System Effects

As a result of this activity, the system reserves a range of serial numbers for a specific DOP header or DOP order.

Enter Sequence/Interval

Procedure

1. Select the DOP header or the DOP order for which to reserve serial numbers.
2. Right-click and then click Serial No, the Reserve Serials for DOP Header/Order dialog box will be displayed.
3. To reserve non-consecutive serial numbers, click New and enter the numbers in the Serial No field for each serial number.
4. To reserve a serial number range, click Sequence to open the Enter Sequence/Interval dialog box. Click New and specify the range in the From Serial No and To Serial No fields. Specify whether you want to add a suffix and/or a prefix under Suffix and Prefix, then enter the characters.
5. Click OK.
