Define Execution Logic Structure Template

Explanation

This activity is used to adjust the generated Execution Logic Structure (ELS) template to set up the correct logic sequence, for instance, by adding predecessor information.

Once the grouping elements for supporting sequencing is decided, the Complete Grouping Criteria option should be carried out. When this is done, basic data for the selected grouping elements will be retrieved and the ELS template generated. Since the predecessor relationships cannot be generated automatically you will need to manually set up the predecessor information. From the generated information in the table of the ELS Sequencing tab, by using the Define Predecessors and Successors menu option or by using the functionality in the Gantt you can set up an execution logic to be the generic sequence for performing work during a maintenance visit. Note: When changes are made in the Gantt, the data in the table will be updated automatically and vice versa. Further, it is also possible to create new records in the ELS Sequencing tab if a grouping node requires more than one predecessor definition. Once the visit has an ELS associated, all instructions and subtasks assigned to the various task codes of the maintenance visit will be assigned automatically to the various ELS nodes within the structure.

Procedure

Using the ELS Sequencing tab:

  1. Open the Define Execution Logic Structure Template window and query (F3) for the necessary grouping ID.
  2. Click the ELS Sequencing tab.
  3. Identify the necessary grouping node for which predecessor information is to be entered.
  4. In the Predecessor field, enter the predecessor node ID. Use the List of Values to select a valid value.
  5. Save the information (F12).

Using the Gantt chart:

  1. Open the Define Execution Logic Structure Template window and query (F3) for the necessary grouping ID.
  2. Click the Gantt tab.
  3. Right-click on the chart, and then click Create Dependencies Mode.
  4. To define predecessor relationships, draw dependencies between the relevant grouping nodes.

Using the Define Predecessors and Successors dialog box:

  1. Open the Define Execution Logic Structure Template window and query (F3) for the necessary grouping ID.
  2. Click the ELS Sequencing tab or the ELS Nodes tab.
  3. Select the node ID for which predecessor and successor relationships are to be defined.
  4. Right-click and click Define Predecessors and Successors. The Define Predecessors and Successors dialog box opens.
  5. Select the Predecessor check box for the node ID(s) that is to be a predecessor to your node ID.
  6. Select the Successor check box for the node ID(s) that is to be a successor to your node ID.
  7. Click Apply to save your changes.
  8. If needed, select a different node from the Node ID list in the header of the dialog box.
  9. Use steps 5 and 6 to enter predecessor and successor relationships for this node ID.
  10. Click Apply to save your changes or click Save and Close to save your changes and close the dialog box.
