Release Material Demands

Explanation

This activity is used to release the material demands for a maintenance order. The purpose of this feature is to provide a means by which the maintenance order material demands are visible to the MRP (material requirements planning) while the maintenance order is still under preparation. This allows the MRP to initiate order proposals/supplies for the maintenance order material demands at an early stage. Once the material demand is released you have the ability to reserve or peg material against a supply, i.e., inventory stock, purchase order or purchase requisition. The benefit of this feature is to minimize the risk of stock shortage especially for items with long delivery lead times.

Prerequisites

• A maintenance order in the Under Preparation status must exist.
• Valid material requirements must be connected to the maintenance order.

System Effects

• Soft-pegged demands are created in IFS Distribution for the required quantity of material on the maintenance order.
• The Material Demand Released check box is selected on the maintenance order.
• The workshop on the maintenance order can only be changed to a workshop within the same site.

Procedure

1. Open the Maintenance Order window and search for the necessary maintenance order.
2. Right-click and click Release Material Demands.
3. Verify that the demand is created.

• If the distribution type is Work Order - Click on the Maint Order Str. tab. Select the relevant structure item in the graphical maintenance order structure and then click the Material Required sub tab. Right-click on the part line and then click Inventory Part Availability Planning.
• If the distribution type is Execution Logic Structure - Click on the Exec. Logic tab. Select the relevant node item in the graphical ELS structure and then click the Material Required sub tab. Right-click on the part line and then click Inventory Part Availability Planning.
• You can also open the Inventory Part Availability Planning window directly from the navigator.

4. The Inventory Part Availability Planning window opens with information on the actual supply and demand for the part. Verify that the material demand is created with the Maintenance Order type. Once the maintenance order is released and a work order is created for it, the order type of the corresponding demand lines will be changed from Maintenance Order to Work Order.
