Free Text Search
Explanation
This activity is used to search for documents containing specific
information. The Text Search component is used to do the search. The Advanced
search type is used. This uses
the search string exactly as it is written, so that advanced queries using
Oracle Text query language can be done, for example, a search string with AND
operator, for example, pipe and leakage, will only find result items including
both the words.
A search string with OR operator, for example, pipe or leakage, will find
result items including any of the two words.
The search can be performed on the attributes of
the document (the
meta data such as document title, revision etc), on the contents of the document file, or
on object connections of the document.
The Text Search documentation
provides further information on performing searches.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites specific to the Content Search are:
- Document files must be stored in a Database type repository to be
searched.
- The user must have at least view access to the document.
- Only the files containing text data can be indexed in IFS/Text Search.
Note: Free text search in scanned document files can be performed by creating two
files out from the scanner: one picture file and one OCR file. Check in the
picture file as the original file and the OCR file as the secondary file
(same file name but different extensions). The .OCR file will be scanned for
indexing. Faithful reproductions of text information in the OCR files will
depend on the original document and the scanner software.
System Effects
- If any documents matching your search criteria is found
these documents are retrieved to the window you performed the search in.
- The search results may differ depending on the window in which the search is
being performed. e.g. The search for a document with revisions A1 and A2
using the Document No will produce 1 search result when performed on the
Document Titles
and 2 search results when performed on the
Document Revisions windows.
