Approve or Reject Structure Change

Explanation

This activity is used to approve a structure change where an alternate with the Qualified Interchangeability interchangeability rule is installed in a structure. Based on the defined configuration rules, approval records will be generated for such structure changes. As a result, the operational condition of the parent part in the serial structure is set to Non Operational and the generated approval records are connected to the parent part. If an approval routing is connected to the alternate definition, this approval routing will be connected automatically to the approval record.

At creation the approval record is set automatically to the Not Approved status. When you set the operational condition of the parent part to Operational, the system will perform a check to identify approval records that have not been approved. During this check, each record with the Not Approved status is validated against the connected approval routing and, provided that all steps for the relevant approval routing are completed, the corresponding approval record will be set to the Approved status. A journal entry will be created with information on the approval of the structure change.

If a structure change is undone prior to its approval, the corresponding approval record will be removed automatically. For example, a pump is installed in Engine 1 and the ensuing structure change requires approval. However, before the installation was approved, the pump was swapped with a pump from Engine 2. The structure change for this swap does not require an approval. Accordingly, the approval record for the installation of a pump in Engine 1 is removed automatically when the swap process is performed.                  

Prerequisites

• A valid alternate with the interchangeability rule Qualified Interchangeability must exist in the serial structure.
• The operational status of the parent part in the structure must be set to either In Operation or Out Of Operation before an approval can be created.
• Your user ID must be defined as an approver (in the Person ID or Approver fields). Alternatively, if a group ID is defined for the required approval step, your user ID must be assigned to this group.

System Effects

• When all approval steps are approved, the operational condition of the serial structure can be set to Operational.
• If rejected approval steps exist, the following actions must be performed before the serial structure can be set operational: approve the rejected steps, or install another alternate in the serial structure, and perform this activity once more to approve the relevant steps.

Procedure

To approve or reject a structure change:

Note: The steps must be approved in sequence. A step cannot be approved or rejected if the previous step has not been approved or has been rejected.

1. Open the Approve Structure Changes window and query (F3) for the serial in which the alternate requiring approval is installed.
2. Click the Approval Routing tab.
3. Select the row that contains the required approval step, right-click and click Approve Step to approve the step or Reject Step to reject the step.

You can also approve or reject a structure change from the Structure Changes Approvals window or the Serial Structure Information/Approval tab. Right-click on the relevant row, and then click Approve to approve or Remove to reject the change.

To approve or reject a structure change for an object:

1. Open the Approvals window.
2. Select Serial Structure Approvals from the Select Object list. All serials that require approval will be displayed in the table.
3. Select the row that contains the required approval step, right-click and click Approve Step to approve the step or Reject Step to reject the step.
