Change Template or Address for Serial

Explanation

This activity is used to change the identification of a serial structure by changing the template part number, template part revision and structure position.

When the template on a serial is changed, there can be differences in templates, such as new structure positions or removed structure positions. If empty structure positions exist in the serial structure but do not exist in the new template, these empty structure positions will be removed automatically from the serial structure when this activity is performed. If structure positions exist in the template structure which are not present in the serial structure, these structure positions will be added automatically to the serial structure as empty structure positions when performing this activity. Empty structure positions refer to the structure positions where expected serials or parts are missing from the serial structure.

Prerequisites

• A template structure holding the selected part revision in the desired structure position must exist.

System Effects

• The current template structure and/or structure position for the selected part and, if selected, for its subparts will be changed.
• If the new template contains a new structure position, an empty structure position will be added automatically to all serial structures using the new template.
• If a structure position in the old template is no longer present in the new template, the empty structure position corresponding to the position in the old template will be removed automatically from all serial structures using the new template.

Procedure

1. Open the Component Life window and query (F3) for your part.
2. Click the General tab.
3. Right-click, and then click Change Template. The Change Template dialog box opens.
4. In the Template Part field, enter the new template part. Use the List of Values to select a valid value. By default, the current top template part number is displayed in this field. However, you can change this value if necessary.
5. Enter a new template revision in the Template Rev field. The current revision for the top template part number is per default entered in this field, but may be changed. Use the List of Values to select a value.
6. Enter the structure position of the serial in the structure template of the Structure Position field. Use the List of Values to select a value.
7. Click OK.
