Delete Serial
Explanation
This activity is used to delete a registered vehicle or component from
IFS/Vehicle Information Management. Ideally this activity should be performed as
a result of the vehicle or component part been sold or scrapped.
You have the option of retaining historical records for the serialized parts
you choose to delete. You also have the option of deleting the entire serial
structure of the selected vehicle. If you have selected to delete the serial
structure in its entirety, historical records for the sub parts will be retained
according to the settings given for the top serial. Note: In addition to
scrapped serials, it is also possible to delete serials that are planned for
operation or out of operation. When a serial is out of operation it will not be
allowed to remove details of the serial from the Part Serial Catalog. Further,
it will not be allowed to delete the serial if it has an underlying structure.
If you need to delete the structure of the serial (that is in the Out of
Operation status), this must be done manually.
Prerequisites
- The operational status of the serial must be set to Planned for
Operation, Out of Operation or Scrapped.
- The serial must not be installed in a structure. In addition, if the
serial being deleted has the operational status Out of Operation, the
serial cannot have an underlying structure.
- If the serial is connected to a flight log, this flight log should be in
either the Voided or Closed status.
System Effects
- Information on the serial will be deleted from the system.
- Historical information on the serial will be retained based on your
selection.
- When a serial in either the Planned for Operation or Scrapped
status is removed,
- If selected, information on the serial will be removed from the Part
Serial Catalog.
- If selected, the structure of the serial will be deleted.
- If selected, the structure of the serial will be retained. Serials on the
first level of the structure will be disconnected from the serial being
deleted, and all empty or not installed structure positions on this level of
the structure will be deleted.
- Historical records for sub serial parts will be retained according to
the settings on the top part in the structure. These records can be analyzed
at any time.
