Rename Serial (Step 1 of 6) -  Enter General Information

[About Serial Structures] [About VIM Access Control] [To Perform Maintenance Engineering] [To Manage Serialized Configuration] [To Manage Line Maintenance] [To Dispatch Asset and Close Maintenance Visit]

Usage

Use this step of the Rename Serial assistant to enter a new part and/or a serial number for the serial that is to be renamed. When a serial is being renamed, it is required to enter a valid reason for the rename. This allows you to track the different reasons for renaming a certain serial. You can choose from the three predefined rename reasons, which are Correct Typing Error, Modify Generated Serial Number and Modification Compliance. The rename reason Correct Typing Error is set by default.

You can also use this assistant step to change the current manufacturer and manufacturer's part number, if needed. The function for changing manufacturer information is useful when the manufacturer or manufacturer's part number is different for the new part and/or serial number. In addition, some manufacturers change their part numbers when an overhaul is performed or a modification complied with. At such instances, it is necessary to change the manufacturer information.

Note: The next step of the assistant can only be accessed once the serial's part and/or the serial number is changed.
