Rename Serial (Step 5 of 6) - Update History

[About Serial Structures] [About VIM Access Control] [To Perform Maintenance Engineering] [To Manage Serialized Configuration] [To Manage Line Maintenance] [To Dispatch Asset and Close Maintenance Visit]

Usage

Use this step of the Rename Serial assistant to choose the history records that are to be updated. When a check box available in this assistant step is selected, the history records denoted by the check box will be updated with the new part and/or serial number. If you choose to clear one of the available check boxes, related history records will not be updated with the new part and/or serial number. Instead, the old part and/or serial number will be retained. When you choose to rename a serial without updating history records, the latest operational logging of the old serial (i.e., the serial being renamed) will be copied automatically to the new serial (i.e., the renamed serial). The purpose of this feature is to provide a starting point for historical operational loggings on the new serial.

Note: If the rename reason Correct Typing Error or Modify Generated Serial Number is used to rename the serial, all the check boxes in this assistant step will be selected by default and cannot be cleared. This is because history records must be updated with the new part and/or serial number when this type of rename is performed.

Furthermore, when a rename is being reversed, the history options are defaulted to the settings on the previously renamed serial (i.e., when performing a reversal, the check boxes in this assistant step will be selected or cleared based on whether you chose to update history records when renaming the serial). If you change the default settings in this assistant step, prior to performing a reversal, a warning message will be displayed.
