Define Master/Slave for Work Order

Explanation

This activity is used to sort the duplicate operations on a work order.

Duplicate operations may appear on a work order as a result of the same instruction or subtask (from IFS/Vehicle Information Management) being included in several different task codes in the workscope. A duplicate operation will have the same part number, serial number, operation ID, operation revision and operation source. Using this activity you can sort the duplicate operations within a work order into master and slave operations. When this is done, one of the operations will be set as the master operation and the others as slaves. Slaves are operations that will be finished or signed off automatically as part of the completion of the master operation. Slave operations will not consume any time, tools, facilities, materials or resources themselves.

Duplicates can be set manually or automatically on the work order. When the Set WO Master/Slave option is used, the system will navigate through the selected work order, and for each occurrence of a duplicate operation set the first occurrence as master and set the others as slaves.

In the graphical object structure, independent and slave operations are indicated by the sign. Master operations are indicated by the sign.

Prerequisites

• The ELS work order structure must exist.
• Duplicate operations must exist on the work order.
• The work order and belonging operations cannot be in either the Work Done or Finished status.
• If duplicates are to be defined manually, a master operation must exist on the work order.
• Material usage, tools and/or facility usage or man-hour consumption should not be entered on the operation(s).

System Effects

• A master operation and a subset of slave operations are defined.
• Resource and material requirements will be removed from the slave operations.
• For improved visibility, slave operations will be hidden from some windows and printouts in the application.

Procedure

Use this procedure to automatically set the master and slave operations on a work order:

1. Open the Work Order Execution Logic window.
2. Populate (F2) or query (F3) for the necessary ELS work order.
3. In the graphical object structure, select a work order, right-click, and then click Set WO Master/Slave.
4. Duplicate operations will be updated with master and slave definitions. You can view information on duplicate operations by selecting a master operation in the structure, and then clicking the Duplicate Operations tab.

Note: When the above procedure is performed, only the master operations will be shown in the graphical object structure. 

Use this procedure to manually set the master and slave operations on a work order:

1. Open the Work Order Execution Logic window.
2. Populate (F2) or query (F3) for the necessary ELS work order.
3. In the graphical object structure, select the master operation on a work order, and then click the Duplicate Operations tab.
4. Select the relevant row, right-click, and then click Set Master Operation or Set Slave Operation.
5. The Duplicate Type field will be updated with values Master or Slave.
